Thanksgiving 2007
Well, this is the way it shook out this year. Doug reserved a time share condo for us at Park City (because, as usual, we had a week we had to use or lose and Thanksgiving week is his only free time). The plan was the kids could take turns coming up and spending a night like we did one year at Wolf Creek, but we couldn’t find a place big enough for all of us to gather at once for a dinner so that plan didn’t work out, BUT, since it was Jon and Denice’s year to have Thanksgiving with the Moons, and Drew was going to a Volley Ball Tournament in Las Vegas, and Brinley was invited to have dinner at the home of a friend in Salt Lake, and Becky really wanted to have their dinner at home, it all worked out.
Doug and I went up Sunday right after Kevin’s bishop ordination to spend one night and check things out. We came back home for Monday (I had a RS meeting and Doug had bowling—our lives are so over-scheduled), then went back up Tuesday. It was a beautiful, clear, but cold day Tuesday. Doug spent most of the day reading class papers and I went for a walk down (or up) old Park City Main Street. I found some relief from the cold wind and an interesting discussion with a sister missionary at the Park City Family History Center. It’s right on Main Street and I’d forgotten all about it so it was fun to just stumble onto it. This sister loves her mission there and Temple Square. Lots of interest from nonmembers. That would be fun.
Wednesday we had Jon and Denise’s kids for the day and night so they could celebrate their wedding anniversary (by working together on their house) and a quiet dinner out. Ours was anything but quiet. We started out with a "backwards" day, having dinner for breakfast and saying everything we didn’t mean. (That became a bit tedious and confusing, and even hurt feeling so we dropped that aspect.) I took the kids for a nature/exploring walk in the morning where we collected lots of pine cones for a project later. Then Becky came with Anne, Millie, and Drew and we all went (br-r-r) swimming. We didn’t have a pool at our complex but had access to one across the street. Picture our little troupe in swimming suits all wrapped up in big dry towels scrambling down the balcony stairs, up some hillside stairs, across the street, across the parking lot, and into another building—all in a very cold wind—where we had to go through a maze of halls and stairs until we came across an outdoor (but semi-heated) pool. Swimming in it was tolerable if you kept moving, but heaven help the wet parts of your body above water level. It took an act of courage to get out of the pool and walk--- not run (very slippery) up the steps to a hot tub. Aw-w-w. Relief! We soaked there until we because boiled prunes. We had dreams of getting dry in the Sauna, but since it wasn’t working we had to repeat the homeward process but this time wrapped in big WET towels. Very stimulating. The kids loved it. They have no sense!
After lunch we all went to The Bee Movie. That was really cute and a very creative story. If you like Jerry Seinfeld humor, you’ll love it.
After the movie we did out art project—coating the pine cones with peanut butter and rolling them in bird seed. For dinner I suggested it was now time for breakfast, but the kids didn’t relaly want cold cereal at this point so we scrambled together another dinner and they had cold cereal for dessert. Then it was safe for Becky to bring out the supplies we’d need for making Thanksgiving decorations for the table the next day—apples, toothpicks and lots of candy for making apple turkeys. The kids loved creating their own version but we kept running out of the gummy candies, even though they seldom showed up on a turkey. Where do you think they went?
Thanksgiving Day Doug and I joined the Klundt’s at their home. In between helping Kevin put the Christmas lights on the roof the kids all worked in the morning creating their own contribution to the dinner, as well as the place cards, etc. and I have to say they do a good job at both. Nathan’s mashed potatoes were delicious, Kevin’s stuffing the best, Abbey made wonderful rolls, etc. etc. A good brisk walk and family games after dinner rounded out a perfect day.
Now we’re on to Christmas.
