Life Happens

Life Takes Over
We’ve been on a fast track since we got back from our trips to Israel and the South Pacific. Doug actually did retire—June being his last month. After his last class on the last Friday Becky and kids were here so we took him out to lunch at Sizzler and celebrated. Unfortunately he broke out with shingles sometime before that and had his grand finally was somewhat diminished. He has had it over a month now and even though the eruptions around his middle have dried up and are disappearing, he still has the nerve pain. He’s trying the pills the doctor prescribed as well as a "magic light" treatment a Russian lady in our ward prescribes. She sent for this light machine a few years ago when her husband had shingles and she swears by it. So far Doug hasn’t seen a lot of relief from it but he keeps trying.

Father’s Day 2008
We had everybody over for Sunday dinner to celebrate including Ginger and Christie to celebrate Ginger’s 71st birthday. It’s on the 15th and often falls on Father’s Day. I don’t remember much about it except a lot of congratulations and kids running up and down the stairs and in and out the doors, all of which add to the fun and excitement. Most of the kids called and talked to Doug and sent gifts, so he was well taken care of. I got him a personally autographed book of Eric Dowdle’s complete works. (He was one of our missionaries in Dallas and is now very successful at his craft--- folk art. We have two of his folksy impressions of Logan—a winter scene and a summer scene.) I also got him a huge book case and a wall to put it against for Father’s Day. Even though I added two more shelves to it, and empties some book shelves in the library, we’re still short of space for all the boxes of books he brings home each day. Help! We’ll be buried.

Incidentals
Wedding receptions, the annual Hawaii reunion, Relief Society activities, baby sitting grand kids, a house party for a friend running for state house of representatives, temple work, Family History assignments, speaking opportunities and doctor’s appointments for Doug, etc. etc. all filled in the gaps in the month.
