Well it was a little late, we missed August, but we did have our Brinley Birthday Bash afterall, and on a very significant day, No, I'm not talking about Labor Day, though it was that (and the parks were full!) but Kallie's 10th birthday. We sure wish you'd been there with us Kallie. We sang to you and you dad and all the Brinley August birthday people and had lots of fun. Mandy made my favorite---carrot cake with lots of nuts, and Anne made Doug's favorite---raisin filled cookies. Thanks, kids, for not including candles.
I love going up to Canyon Glen, our traditional Bash spot because of the memories it holds, but also because it is a great place to eat, play in the water, and play ball. I love seeing my kids and grand kids all get into the game. Every year you little ones get better and better. Kallie, we could have used your pitching arm but grandpa had to do. The toddlers who couldn't really participate in the ball game had their fun throwing rocks in the river---an activity that can occupy them for hours, it seems.
Besides Terri's family and Dave's family (both with August Birthday people!) we also missed Drew this year. I wore my Drew t-shirt with his picture on the front so he wasn't forgotten. Hope he's having a good time in Texas.
Speaking of Texas. How about that Oklahoma/BYU game! It was fun to watch and fun for me to think how great it was that half our family was there at that beautiful new stadium watching that awesome game together. Who would have ever thought it would turn out that good? For my ancestors it was a win-win. Doug couldn't stand to watch the game until he knew the outcome (he was so sure BYU would be humiliated) so he took two of my ancestors to the temple, did two sessions back to back, and came home to a great report and enjoyed watching the replay with confidence. Funny man.
Thank you again for the gifts. The mixer was quite enough, thank you. Funny story about the kitchen utensils Terri sent last minute with Jon to carry on. The box was full of sharp items that could have doubled as a weapon, had Jon been a terrorist bent on high jacking the plane, but they only took the small chopping knife. I think one of the screeners must have needed one.
