Ah The First Snow of Spring!

Massive snow last Friday just to remind us that Spring in the Far North is kind of theoretical. Today, on the other hand was nice and warm. Did our first run in shorts and a t-shirt. Sandy and I are excitedly/nervously eyeing the upcoming Marathon date. Its been a long cold training season and we look forward to the actual event and especially to having so many family members involved. Ready to carb load!

Basketball is finally over. Darin played his last High School game at the Provincial Tournament several weeks ago. Tanner has decided to try wrestling which starts May 8. I'm co-coaching Kallie's softball team which is starting its season this week. Logan is ready to start...basketball? (spring league). We took our final snowboard trip the weekend before last. There are some stunning locations up here. Goat Mountain! You can look from the top of the lift over to British Columbia. Tanner and I had spectacular wipeouts which my back and his arm are not happy about. Still, that which doesn't kill us....

Having been out of academia for some time, I was excited to attend a symposium at University of Calgary. Shell sponsors the Chair of Business Ethics and I'm on the advisory panel to the Business Department. Sadly the bulk of the symposium turned out to be three professors from BC, Arizona and Australia debating the meaning of the word, "economy". "Diechenback and Horton opined in 1994 that the discourse regarding the notion of economy post David Hume was fundamentally changed. It would no doubt interest the delegates that....zzzzzzzz" After several hours of this I returned to my humble desk in the real world happy to work on something of value (blithely ignorant of any current debates on the meaning of "value").

We are acutely conscious that our time together is drawing to an end with Darin's impending college entrance. We'll really miss him but are excited with this new phase of his life. He'll get in a a semester before putting in his papers. Tanner has already submitted his application for Benefits Accruing to the Oldest Child which include his own room and the cell phone. We are preparing our own response entitled Responsibilities Accruing to the Oldest Child which include driving duties and chores.

Have a Great Spring!
