Flashback

So I was in the shower this morning remembering when I lived in Tehatchapi. It was always windy there and I had a chronic cough. I remember needing a jacket, but being on a bike I needed something light. Meanwhile some poor soul was trying to smoke enough cigarettes to order a windbreaker-jacket and pants from the Marlboro catalogue. Somehow the order go mixed up and it was sent to Terri and Brian's house and Terri dutifully forwarded it on to me. It turned out to be just what I needed. The jacket was lite and warm. I took the pants, which were much too large, and made a wind sock. I also removed the little yellow ribbons that were connected to the zipper and sewed them to my scriptures as book marks. They are still in my scriptures today.

This winter I am grateful to have conquered the cough but I can't help think that somewhere there is a smoker who paid for that jacket with his lungs.
